Alcohol Action Ireland have a new online Alcohol Service Finder which has been produced in response to the many requests from people looking for help with their own alcohol problems or those of a loved on.

You can find the directory at http://alcoholireland.ie/get-help OR www.drinkhelp.ie OR www.alcoholhelp.ie

You can search for help anywhere in the Republic of Ireland either by searching under a county or by clicking on "Who needs help?" which is broken into 6 categories:

Adults with alcohol problems

Under 18's with alcohol problems

Children affected by their parents' alcohol problems

Parents of children under 18 with alcohol problems

Families of adults with alcohol problems

Teens/young adults with alcohol problems

  1. Staff Training

The TRP staffs are continuing to update their skills. The following staff are in the process of the following training;

  • Sheila Bowes – Advanced Training CBT
  • Jamie Byrne – Counselling and Physiotherapy
  • 3 Staff members attended a 3 day course on Restorative Training - Nicola Walker, Catherine O Connor and Michael Williams
  • Pat Daly and Lisa Wynne – Management Training with TDTF

 

  1. Residential Weekend

TRP has set the date for the residential weekend in An Tobar, Co Meath for TRP participants. The weekend will be held from Thursday 2nd June – Sunday 5th June 2011. There will be a 6 week residential preparation for people who will be attending this weekend. The theme of this year’s residential weekend is “Emotional Self Care and Acceptance”. The aim of this weekend is to provide a safe secure environment to enable participants to work on and discuss in-depth, personal issues and to discuss sensitive emotions that may be underpinning certain problems.

 

  1. Womens Mini Marathon

On 6th June 2011 around 25 people will be running, jogging walking and maybe even crawl the Women’s Mini Marathon in aid of TRP. This is the second year running that staff participant family and friends have competed in this event.     On the 15th April 2011 the Male Gender Group will be heading out on a day trip on the Rinn Voyager. The Rinn Voyager was built by Poolbeg Training under a FÁS community training project, it is 12.8 m steel hulled, Colin Archer designed sailing ketch, powered by a 75hp Yanmar diesel engine.

     

  • Tallaght Wide Aftercare

    Two announcements for the Aftercare

    On the 31st March 2011 the female gender group of the Tallaght Wide Aftercare will start a 6 week module. The title of this module will be Women’s Empowerment.

     

    Currently the participants of TWA are taking part in a drama module. At the end of this module the participants will put on a play called Romeo and Juliet Tallaght Style. This will be an invite only event.

     

    Community Wellness project

    TDTF supports the Community Wellness Project at St Dominics Community Response Project which has been open for 3 months.  It’s a drop in service on Monday evenings, 5.30 to 9pm.  Anyone can come for one-to-one support and auricular acupuncture.  It’s already popular with 16 to 21 people attending each week.

    PARENT’S SHORT-TERM DRUG AWARENESS COURSES

    The Tallaght Drugs Education Initiative, through Tallaght Youth Service is running free, short-term drug awareness courses for parents in Tallaght. Parents, or guardians, who want to learn more about drug misuse and what they can do to help prevent their children from getting involved in drugs, can avail of these courses for free. They are most relevant to parents of 7 to 17 year olds living in Tallaght.

    Courses range from 3-weeks (run in the mornings or evenings for 90 minutes a session) to a single day programme, usually on a Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with lunch provided.     WASP Familty Support group

    WASP Family Support group  meet on Monday evenings, 7.30-9pm in Schoil Mhuire, Whitechurch estate, Ballyboden.

    The group offers support to family members who are living with another's problematic drug or alcohol use.  The group is open to new members anytime.
