Allotment at St Dominics

Print PDF

St. Dominic’s have an allotment up in Bohernabreena and are at present working away on this plot.  The Stabilisation programme group are up preparing the plot, deciding what produce they will be planting, and will also be gaining a FETAC Level 3 Award in Horticulture for all their hard work.  We have also designated some of the plot to our family support ladies as we have a number of keen gardeners in the group.  This piece of work started just over a month ago and it appears to have taken off which is great for everyone involved.

  • Tallaght Hope and Remembrance Service 2010

JADD were project host for this years service held on Tuesday September 14th in St. Thomas’ Church, Jobstown.  Father Val Martin welcomed all attendees to Jobstown, his recent retirement made the service all that more emotional and appropriate.

The theme for this year’s service was CHAINS – illustrating all that JADD as an organisation represents and lobbies on behalf of:

Theme: C.H.A.I.N.S: Children, Hope, Awareness, Inspire, Nurture, Siblings.

Minister Pat Carey TD, with responsibility for the National Drugs Strategy was our distinguished guest and speaker.

Grace Hill (TDTF Coordinator) was MC for the service.

Via this service, our aim is to:

    • Ø Raise awareness about the issue of addiction & related issues in our community, specifically family support.
    •
    • Ø Give hope to those affected by drugs/alcohol or who have lost someone because of addiction in our community.
    •
    • Ø  Allow those affected by drugs/alcohol or who have lost someone because of addiction to grieve within a supportive environment.
    •
    • Ø Instil the message that this year especially, we are struggling but determined to “strengthen the family chain reaction, within family and  communities”

The service was well attended and thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Tears were shed but of sadness and laughter in equal measure.

Music hugely featured in this year’s service – we want to sincerely thank members of music groups: Emerge, The Gardiner Street Gospel Choir and The Ballymun Gospel Choir.

Bishop Eamonn Walsh provided us with great words of comfort and inspiration, as usual.

This year the focus is on Sibling Support: remembering the brother or sister of the addict.
